SHERWOOD SHORES VFD

SERVING WESTERN LAKE  TEXOMA

This site is for the purpose of providing information to the residents of our fire district. This site is continually changing.  We have added some photos to the incident and pictures page. Check back often to get valuable fire prevention information and upgrades to our fire department and Web Site.

There is no "Burn Ban" in effect for Grayson County at this time.  Check the Grayson County Website @ www.co.grayson.tx.us/EM/em.htm for additional information on Emergency Management issues, training and current related events around Grayson County.   Keep a check on Grayson County Website and this website for possible restrictions from the Commissioners Court.

With cooler weather upon us, it will be time to check our fireplaces/chimneys and clean as necessary.  Check your electrical heathers for frayed wiring, broken or loose plugs and do not place electrical cords where they must be walked on.  Check your smoke detectors again for fresh batteries and test them to make sure they work.  This is usually recommended when we have the daylight savings time changes, but it will not hurt to check again before the home heating gets into full swing.

We have had two structure fires recently that may be directly contributed to the use of electrical "space heaters".  Fortunately there have been no injuries or death, however one fire had substantial damage to the structure.  We will have at least a couple more months of cool/cold weather and we ask that you be extremely aware of the hazards that these appliances present.

Due to the winter advisory warning received on Dec. 24th, our Department met with representatives of the Sherwood Shores Association of Grayson County, Neighborhood Watch, Red Cross and local Church representatives to address the possible problems of an extended power outage that may occur for our residents that depend on electrical power for heating their homes and may depend on life support equipment that requires electrical power.  We implemented a temporary emergency plan that includes opening the Community Building on Mohawk Drive, which is heated by propane, and making shelter available for those who need it on a temporary basis.   This plan will remain in effect until we can meet again to make a more permanent plan which will include emergency response from our Department including all other types of emergencies that require our response to mass causalities, mass evacuations and etc.  Our written plan will be coordinated with the above organizations and the Grayson County Emergency Management to insure that we have appropriate response plans in place for our Community.

We had 7 persons attend the quickly called meeting, which shows the spirit of the Sherwood Shores Community of being concerned about our residents.

We wish everyone a Safe and Prosperous New Year
